The first time I took my FAA PPL check ride, I failed the oral exam; largely because I didn't even know what the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) was. (even though I already have a Canadian PPL!)
After that humbling failure, I got my act together and created a 73 page long study guide that was based on the requirements outlined in the ACS document and I passed my re-test with flying colors!
After that, using this study method, I'm happy to report that I also never failed another check ride again!
